VFILES A/W15

The days outside of Fashion Week tend to be so different; time slows down, I enjoy eating a little more than usual and I generally have no responsibilities. But, when it reaches early February, with Fashion Week just a corner a way, I suddenly realise just how fast it's come. Only last month was I reviewing menswear shows in London, and now it's already the season of womenswear. And what better way to start, than with energetic, cool and enthusiastic young designers showing at the VFiles Made Fashion A/W15 show. I've been a fan of the online platform for a while, watching the hilarious online episodes of 'Model Files' and more recently, 'Intern Files'. The brand really has come a long way, now with the guidance of Candy Pratts Price, international Editor-At-Large and Italo Zucchelli, creative director at mens Calvin Klien.

It's nicer to have a look at young designers, who have worked really hard to build their brand. And it's even better to see their collections explode all over the internet, and what's better motivation, than showing at NYFW? First up was Julia Seemann, who showcased a futuristic hippie girl, the models wore giant floppy hats, with slouched-shoulder dresses. Her short collection featured retro blue denim, juxtaposed with leather and metallic detailing. The girls look super modern, even with a retro throwback.

Then was Andrea Jiapei Li who I just loved. The Bejing designer combined traditional Chinese clothing of loose garments and extreme geometric shapes. Fusing soft cottons, with hardened vinyl. The only menswear designer this season, Ximon Lee was inspired by a Polish documentary, which depicts orphaned kids on the street of Moscow. The boys wore ombre-dyed, oversized and abstract pieces in different shades of blue.

Finally, Di$count Univer$e, a brand which is popular among many musicians, showed bright, sequined dresses. This was teamed with biker jackets of bright colours and youthful prints.

It's really wonderful to see young designer's show case their collections on the runways. I think it's because they're my peers and it's touching to see them reach success. Whatever the reason may be, I can't wait to seem flourish in the future.

  1. I really like your style of writing, it sounds personal enough and it comes across as if you're really interested in fashion. I agree with you when you say that it's nice to see young designers. Do you watch the Vogue Fashion Fund show? I think you'd really like it. Can't wait to read the next show review
