AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS 2013

The red carpet for the 2013 American Music Awards were rather tame this year, despite Lady Gaga arriving on a human-controlled horse. Pretty much everyone looked good, besides a few errors and mistakes, such as wrong proportions and incorrect hair style choices. Read on, to see my best and worst looks of the night. Don't forget to comment your opinion below!

Miley Cyrus arrives wearing a white-suit by Versace. I think she looks really elegant, whilst keeping her 'sexy' look with the lack of a top. She looks very clean in all white and prepared to sing on stage!

SIGNATURE LOOK

After many different outfits and looks, I think I have found the one! Sticking to black, with a contemporary and a classic edge, this will remain my style. Of course I plan to broaden my horizons and develop my fashion taste in the future, but for now, this is it. After all, Mr. Yves Saint Laurent said "Fashion fades, style is eternal."

I look forward to reading all your comments and opinions, so don't forget to drop them below! See you all in the next post~!

MUSIC | 2NE1 - MISSING YOU

The famous South Korean girl-group is back, with their latest single, 'Missing You'. The video features designs from Versace, Saint Laurent and a Maison Martin Margiela mask. The track has an emotional and a night-time feel to it, with a corresponding video. The girls look absolutely beautiful. The cinematography is somewhat similar to a fashion film, with lengthy shots of the clothes. Check out the video below!

WON'T SOMEONE SAY SOMETHING?

For years, photographer Terry Richardson has become increasingly popular. Vogue, H&M, Obama (yes, Obama!) and countless others have all worked with Richardson to help create their visions. His iconic glasses and white background with harsh lighting has become an epitome in the Richardson brand. However the 48 year-old photographer's career may be coming to an end, after almost 6, 000 and counting have signed a petition, for big name brands such as Vogue and H&M to stop hiring him. Only now has one brand stepped forward, H&M. The Swedish chain answered queries on the work and the photographer himself: "If these accusations are true, it's totally unacceptable to us. Currently we're not working with Terry Richardson." But will that one tweet be enough?

The recent work of Terry Richardson included artist Miley Cyrus, strutting around in leotards and featured on the famous white background.

CHANEL SPRING 14 | #PFW

Karl Lagerfeld was inspired by art this season, the clothes, the models' make-up and the art gallery-style set. Having presented his Fendi collection last week, this wasn't a hit for me. Of course there were some pieces I liked; the clean and structured white looks, or the neat and carefully embellished tops. But Fendi offered something futuristic and contemporary, with cool circuit board dresses and ombre gradient materials. Many bloggers and fashionista's are growing tired of the use of tweed - a strong component of the make-up of Chanel. It would appear as though Lagerfeld is slowly transitioning into youthful and brighter pieces, but is it the right choice?

A classic Chanel look, a top featuring the jacket's iconic 4 buttons, stamped with the house logo.

SAINT LAURENT SPRING 14 | #PFW

The Saint Laurent woman was certainly more tidier, cleaned up and sharper this year. She wore fitted suits and was pretty in frills, a key code in the genetics of the Yves Saint Laurent house. Having this being his fourth (sixth, if you include menswear) collection for the house, the theme of Rock'n'Roll still lingered from his fall collection; tight leather pants, bright and bold prints, and of course sex appeal. Last seasons collection wasn't a hit for some, with the items being compared to high-street quality and look. Certainly the Saint Laurent woman last season, was rougher in order to match the punk trend. But this year, Hedi Slimane introduces elegance, with punk.

I kinda like this look, a throwback to vintage style with retro rock'n'roll influences.

GIVENCHY SPRING 14 | #PFW

With Kanye West, Kim Kardashian and Ciara in the front row at this season's Givenchy show, the pressure was on for Riccardo Tisci. He beautifully described the collection as "It's a car crash of two cultures-the fragility of Japan and the draping of Africa.", which could certainly be noted on the runway. Japanese influenced designs were up first, the models wore clothes which where heavy in material yet light in style. They were draped across the body, with various two tone materials. There were plenty of materials used, some used to extend the neck line and reveal a bandage style undergarment. African elements then came into play, when the models wore safari tones, with excess draping. The models were adorned with with rough furs, to represent the wildlife of Africa. Tisci closed with ensembles which had colourful stripes, these looks were gowns, with a reveal of cleavage. Often using light materials such as silk, to represent Japanese kimonos and the styling of Africa.

I love the styling of this look, elegance teamed with strength and power. She looks strong and confident.

RICK OWENS SPRING 14 | #PFW

I am getting sick and tired of this topic. When Rick Owens presented his collection this year, there was so much negative feedback and disgusting responses. So called 'Fashionistas' took to the internet to describe the collection has 'hideous' or 'ugly', when there was a deep and meaningful reason behind it. These girls adore skinny models and Chanel, but there is more to fashion. It's the message and artistry behind it. With so many young girls looking towards the fashion industry, don't you agree it's more important to send a positive message? That women of all sizes can wear beautiful clothes? Owens commented "We're rejecting conventional beauty, creating our own beauty." There is so much meaning behind this collection, not only was it designed to suit the athletic dancers as they stomped the Parisian runway, but the anger that Owens felt. The style of dance chosen, the expression of their faces, the aphotic colour choices from the collection, it's all a message. A huge "F**k you!" to the industry and the expectations, Rick Owens is able to defy convention - which is a revolution. I have nothing left to say.

BALENCIAGA SPRING 14 | #PFW

Alexander Wang has presented yet another beautiful and modern collection for the house of Balenciaga. There were various echoes towards his own eponymous brand, such as the contemporary biker jacket, the fashionable shorts and the edginess of the runway. Not to mention, the set was stunning. The first model opened the show, wearing a grey look consisting of two parts. She wore an effortlessly cool grey biker with white shoulders, and a flared structured skirt. She was finished with a pair of strap heels.

This look is somewhat similar to his menswear collection, with the grey biker look, only in a female version. It looks absolutely cool and fresh.

VERSACE SPRING 14 | #MFW

Nothing screams tough, sexy and independent as a Versace collection. Donatella presented yet another audacious and bold collection for the Italian brand, with models wearing revealing outfits, which had edgy styling and skin tight pants. Katlin Aas opened the show, wearing a denim outfit. She boldly wore a denim jacket, with just a Medusa head necklace underneath. She also wore a denim skirt and finished with a pair of killer heels. This skirt was worn in various styles, depicting its versatility. The skirt was paired with a sheer bandage top, a white military-esque jacket and a casual t-shirt - very versatile.

A strong look to open the show, but the outfit is messy and sloppy.

FENDI SPRING 14 | #MFW

Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Venturini Fendi has presented a really fresh and unique collection, for Fendi this season. Both played with fabrics, colours and shapes very well for this collection. This collection boasts transition colour dresses, with rich tones, slowing developing into clean whites. Futurism was also fairly prominent on the runway, the cuts were modern and contemporary, with some looks even featuring prints of circuit boards. Sticking to the luxurious roots of Fendi, he then showed outfits which had sheer under lays, with fine furs atop; these looks varied from abstract shapes to straight lines.

I really like this look, the transition is very modern and fresh. I think the colour really matches Cara.

GUCCI SPRING 14 | #MFW

Frida Giannini certainly seemed to have loosened up in order to create her Spring 2014 collection, after giving birth to daughter Greta, she seems to have valued the positives of loose clothing (compared to Giannini's collection last season). This collection featured loose, free clothing, with plenty of materials. The star quality of the collection, lies in the Japanese kimono-style looks, with beautiful large flowers. Sport also seemed to be an element this collection, with mesh t-shirts, without straying too far from her luxurious Gucci woman, the vest is made entirely from laser-cut suede! The first model wore a sporty mesh tee, paired with loose bright pants, featuring a floral print.

I like the pieces, as separate components to an outfit. However, I feel as though this is sloppy for an opener.

DSQUARED2 SPRING 14 | #MFW

Milan has finally arrived and what better way to open, than with DSquared. The week promises collections from Gucci, Fendi and Versace. Always opening with an eccentric and theatrical production, this year's featured a holiday scene, where the brother's are working behind a bar and having drinks with their impeccable model companions. Providing a very fun and upbeat start to MFW. Fresh-face Holly Rose Emrey, who is proving to be very popular this season wore a white mini. The dress is white, with emphasis on the waist. A very sexy look indeed.

A very nice look, definitely sexy and alluring in the bold sense.

ANTONIO BERADI SPRING 14 | #LFW

For this season's collection, Antonio Beradi was inspired by using couture fabrics, but in an urban technique. "It was an idea of moving my woman forward and taking myself out of a safety zone, away from the things that I'm known for." he justified. Every designer should do so at least once in their careers, in order to push a new image forward and to allow a fresh demographic. The first model opened the show, stepping out in a barely-there pink ensemble, with floral motifs on the whole look. She wore a light dress, with a boyish jumper a top - a stark contrast, something fitted with something loose.

A very pretty look, extremely feminine with a masculine touch of the top.

MULBERRY SPRING 14 | #LFW

Creative designer at Mulberry, Emma Hill wishes goodbye to the brand she moulded for over six years. For her final collection, she designed a show which embodies, to her, a Mulberry woman. The collection consists of the British-vibe, beautiful pops of bright colours, with the edginess of leather. Model-of-the-moment and campaign star of Mulberry's F/W collection, Cara Delevingne opened the show wearing a off white blouse, tucked into floral shorts, finished with a matching coat. She was soon followed by models who wore panelled dresses, with breaks of sheer materials, the designs were shown in various colours, from light blue to nude peach.

Cara opened the show, wearing a bold outfit. Florals also seem to be making a comeback next season.

PREEN SPRING 14 | #LFW

For those of you who have been following me for a while, you'd be able to realise that LFW isn't my favourite week. I'm quite reluctant to post and review these shows and they don't mean much to me, however Preen has proven me wrong. Of course there are other fundamental shows which catch my attention. Thorton & Bregazzi created a beautiful collection, featuring diaphanous dresses with bright pops of art imagery. The first model stepped out in a white gown, with an asymmetric hemline, she wore a top which boasts beautiful florals.

Love the print on the top, the white contrasts the pops of colours very well.

MM6 MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA | #NYFW

Style.com's interpretation of MM6 was certainly best when they said "Watching MM6 was like taking a breath of fresh icy air." The collection this year focused on transparency and clean white shapes for spring 2014. The creations (like most years) looked innovative, modern and certainly unique. The first model opened with a white look, she wore what looked like a suited dress, with a translucent white tee. She was completed with a pair of white booties. She looked fresh-faced, clean and very modern.

I love the cleaniless of this outfit, it's very fresh and crisp. The white eye make-up compliments the whole look very well.

VICTORIA BECKHAM SPRING 14 | #NYFW

When Victoria Beckham first established her brand five years ago, she introduced her signature design; a usually form-fitting ensemble, clinging onto a woman's body. However, as time and trends change, Victoria begins to lose sight of her signature creation. This collection was all about loose, almost boxy shapes. Using her minimalist approach, Victoria designed an impeccable collection. The first model wore a monochrome outfit, a white vest which flared at the hem, worn with a pair of black pants. She was polished with a white cocoon shoulder jacket and nude-tone heels.

A clean aesthetic to open her Spring collection, very tidy and neat. I like the shapes being played around here.

ALEXANDER WANG SPRING 14 | #NYFW

As if his ultra-modern collection last summer wasn't enough, this year Alexander proved his growth as a designer. Continuously creating fresh designs, this year was no different. The main design of the show, was of course the logo print, for which he explains "That was the height of me in high-school, reading and obsessing over [magazines] and being a fashion geek." But haven't we left logo printing in the early noughties? Alexander certainly revived the trend, with cool laser cut-outs of his signature name, 'ALEXANDER WANG'.

The top actually reads his name which looks very cool in close-up shots. An obvious nod to the brand-printing craze, minus the tackiness of it all.

HELMUT LANG SPRING 14 | #NYFW

A very effortless chic and cool collection from the house of Helmut Lang this year. With head designers Nicole and Michael Colovos presenting a casual, light 90s influenced collection. This year featured heavy use of leathers and simple cuts; straight lines and sharp shapes. The first model wore a white jump-suit, which looked very clean. The look was finished with a white belt, adding shape to the model, with a pair of black strapped heels. Modern indeed.

A very contemporary look, very clean and sharp.

Jason Wu's collection this season, certainly had a aura of 90s glam. In the forms of slip-on dresses, shimmer materials on selected designs and hit model Karen Elson, who opened the show. She wore a sheer dress, with transition shimmer, cascading down, with a beautiful reveal of her back. The dress allows freedom of movement, elegance and grace in a subtle manner.

RELAXED

Summer is coming to an end, and there's no better way to send off the season than with a shopping trip in London. The end of the summer also marks the arrival of 6th form and the transition between higher education. That of course, includes a whole new wardrobe too.

I went shopping today for a few pieces such as shirts and shoes, to match the formal style of 6th form. Most 6th formers would opt for a tired suit, but of course, 'Vu' fashion does not follow! Stay tuned for some awesome posts coming your way!

FALL/WINTER 13 TRENDS

This season, there are many more trends than the last; with up to six ways, to look fabulous and in vogue. Whether you're style is more punk, elegant or masculine-influenced, there is a trend for everyone this season. Either light pastels or edgy menswear, coats and outwear is the main trend this fall, with a lot of fashion houses emphasising on this key element. Here, you'll find the most important trends for this season.

Punk (or 'Vunk' for Versace) was very popular on the catwalks this season. Designers from Versace to Junya Watanabe presented their collections with a 'rough' girl image. Donatella kept her line clean and sharp, the models looked edgy, but still well kept. Hedi showed his collection with more significance on 'rough', the controversial collection evokes 'care-free' style and 'whatever' hip. The key to this trend, is the obvious tartan print, originating from 60s British style. Keep it loose and free, with sharp and dangerous accessories for an ultimate punk look.

But it was the red carpet that obviously caught my attention, so let's take a look at some of the best and worst looks of the night.

SHOULD THEY COVER UP MORE?

As I made my way into the city, meeting up with a friend before she jets off to San Jose; I read a very interesting article, debating whether men's magazines should cover up more? The article had readers sending in their opinions on the topic the following day, all proposing interesting ideas and complex views. "My five year old will often ask: 'Why hasn't that lady got any clothes on? Why is she pulling her knickers down? Why is her friend squirting her with water..?". said one reader, whilst another states "While lads' mags may be distasteful, censorship is worse. Who are these people to tell others what they can't read? We have a right to read garbage too."

THE UGLY SIDE

There are hundreds, if not thousands of girls who dream to become models. To pose in cute dresses and walk in heels, in order to feel glamours and loved. They watch mainstream TV shows like 'Keeping Up With The Kardashians' and notice how Kendall and Kylie Jenner also aspire to model. The show glamorises and sugar-coats what the modelling industry is actually like, showcasing the girls modelling for bumble-gum brand Sherri Hill. These girls fall into the category of 'Faux Fashionista', due to their basic understanding of fashion and their imbecilic belief on fashion; because they know who Cara Delevinge and Jordan Dunn are, they also understand fashion.  However, knowing fashion labels and knowing fashion are two completely different things.

Before the couture show began, Giambattista Valli statedFlowers and colours are what women want from me" He certainly used that as inspiration for this beautiful collection. This seasons presentation included delicate florals, light materials and daring colours. Valli certainly stayed on the sweeter side of fashion, presenting beautiful, feminine looks.

CHRISTIAN DIOR FALL 13 COUTURE

Creative director Raf Simons is changing the house of Dior, before our own eyes. The model cast this year, finally consists of black models, a first for the brand. Not only were they used, but many cultural influences were noted in this collection. Previously, French styling and cuts were prominent, however, featured in this collection were African and Eastern motifs. Creating a collection, which is very contemporary, fresh and open.

I love the beading on the torso, the colours of this dress all work well together.

ARMANI PRIVÉ FALL 13 COUTURE

Armani presented a subtle collection this season, basing his ideas upon lightness. There were few colours chosen, most of which were from the paler side of the spectrum, with hues of black, to break it here and there. He said "Pure elegance, what's on the inside", this can clearly be noted in the collection.

I like the structure of the shoulders, really clean and sharp

GUCCI MENS SPRING 14

This is the very last menswear show I will be reviewing this season, before catching on with Haute Couture shows. This season Frida Gianini envisioned the stylish sportsman "Gone trekking." Items all have sport elements, with luxurious sprints and materials. The collection is aimed at active, young sportsmen, connoting a new image for the Gucci man.

Kris Van Assche is at the top of menswear fashion, continuously designing wearable clothes, with a contemporary edge. This collection promotes monochrome, with sudden bursts of bright hues. Most of the looks had a 'smart' element, while others included modern twists. For example a white shirt, with crocodile motifs. This collection is very wearable, for the fashionable gentleman this summer.

Dean and Dan Caten opened the show with a mysterious start; it appears a plane has crash landed onto a strange island, with no one else around. Matt Woodhouse opened the show, having a shower under the falls, where a fellow male model hands him a towel, before Matt walks the runway. The show presented a fun collection, with dramatic prints on swim shorts, in contrast with rather demure looks, featuring heavy black. The show has always been noticed for the engaging runway sets and this one doesn't disappoint!

DOLCE & GABBANA MENS SPRING 14

Dolce and Gabbana presented a longer collection than most shows (perhaps to leave a strong imprint of the name, until the next show), consisting of grand prints, smart suits and light materials. The collection proposed the idea of Sicilian heritage, envisioning the locals from the D&G boys background. Prints were very graphic and eye-catching, making it rather unwearable. The design duo have been sentenced to 20 months of jail, due to tax evasion of around £850m. Hopefully the pair will be back soon, creating an amazing comeback collection.

The collection initially began with tanned tones - in the forms of coats, leather minis and cotton knits, all finish with a pair of matching heels. Animal prints were also seen, he proposed these prints through giraffe and leopard prints, also seen on Jennifer Lopez at the Met Gala 2013. Alexander Wang (new creative director at Balenciaga) presented a monochrome collection, with the same modern aesthetic as the Fall/Winter collection, with asymmetric shapes and various cut-outs.
